Live Show Review: Motograter - Honoring of the Sun Tour

Tribal fury metalers MOTOGRATER played a spellbinding set Wednesday May 25th at O’Sheckys with openers Act of Violence and XFactor1.

More vicious than ever before, the Motograter beast is back with a sweet tooth for heavy grinding, cranial drilling industrial metal. The jungle-like apocalyptic atmosphere rests in the dark spaciousness of the guitar riffs as Tyler and Nuke sync their strings perfectly with Twitch on the thunderous drums. Angel’s stirring vocals earmark the balance between cryptic pain-marked verses and sweet soaring, melodic choruses which accent the signature sound of pure evil coming from Mark Nosler on the motograter.*

It was a nonstop party on stage and in the audience as fans were treated to back in the day favorites like Suffocate, Down, and Get Back. We also got a taste of the newest single Start A War, a song I can only describe as an unapologetic onslaught of rebellion and heavy metal aggression! Check out the full set list below and make sure to catch MOTOGRATER on the Honoring Of The Sun Tour coming to a city near you!

I also had the amazing honor of interviewing Angel. That interview will be posted soon so stay tuned to Ear Candi Magazine for more information!

The Latest Crave: Coveted Green

Coveted Green - a refreshing group of musicians out of Gahanna, Ohio, mix captivating vocals with a double shot of rock and serves it up with a side of pop to bring forth one of the most authentic sounds in alternative music.

Deja Vu is the heaviest track with pure metal guitar riffs and dark lyrics was even featured in Columbus local film, Threshold. Flipping the switch back to CG's regular style MTV generation pop with an alt vibe; The Captain(next track) is fit for long road trips, daydreaming and is a good listen for those seeking inspiration. On and On is an intimate and emotional track that showcases the raw beauty of Adam's vocals. On and on leads into a slightly more uptempo breakup song that poetically compares a bad relationship full of lies and betrayal to a frayed, worn, t-shirt. T-Shirt is a credit to Coveted Green's music writing.

Before Me, a singer/songwriter track about a showing appreciation for that special someone is a sweet, slow dance song that will sweep any girl off her feet. Tend Too takes us back to  CG's rock roots as the band embraces the song wholeheartedly to push that feeling of live music through the speakers. To A Dream is a sugary pop lullaby with a deeper meaning of self realization. The snap and float of Adams vocals make the song stick to your skull like your favorite coming of age movie scene.

Overall, Coveted Green is breaking ground with deliciously simple yet cunning and passionate music for pop lovers who still enjoy an authentic sound not created via formula. See them live on August 28 at The American Heart Association in Columbus, Ohio.

The Latest Crave: Aligned Archetype - Kellee Maize Album Review

A small town girl from central PA just like me- you know I had to review this album!!!!

Kellee is not just a rapper - she is an entrepreneur and a visionary. Running an all female company, Nakturnal Inc., this events and promotions company is taking the Pittsburgh music scene by storm. I popped in Kellee's newest album Aligned Archetype and was launched into the future of music. Kellee's lyrical expressions represent where music is heading... art reflecting life lyrics, hard hitting beats, hypnotic hooks, and infectious verses that get stuck in your head and subliminally become soundtracks to everyday life.

With 21 Tracks, from Open Minded to Dedication Kellee asks, "How can she combine her energies to help create real change?" She aligns all parts of herself to find the answer and it is through a combination of her energies, emotions and expressions that she finds her future as a refreshing force of feminism in hip hop and pop music.

Mothership- "word to the mothership, yea we're on some other shit and now is not the time for this." This song is probably my favorite after Struggle AKA White Girl Socialist. With socially conscious lyrics this song deals with female sexual exploitation, and the power women have to elevate their statuses in society. A meaningful tune with a funky techno beat, this song is certainly a hit.

Futuristic feminist rock rap with hints of electronica and bubblegum pop, this is the perfect album for girls getting ready to paint the town red, feminists looking for music that speaks to their life experiences, dreamers seeking inspiration, and hip hop heads everywhere.

What Kellee's music says to me... this album embraces all parts of Kellee - honoring her her past, focusing on her future, and taking all the blessings life has to offer.

She’s is an incredible fire in the rap world, and will soon be internationally known on the microphone as that killer white girl rapper who will eat you alive with lyrics and truths. On a mission change the global opinion of women rappers and on female artists everywhere; Kellee  isn’t afraid to show who she really is through her music, her energy, and her aligned archetypes.

Check out Kellee's newest vid - Goddette. Then go join her facebook page and buy her cd!

CMC Parking Lot Blowout 5 - In Review

This past Saturday (July 10) the Surly Girl girl parking lot was flowing with Pabst Blue Ribbon and the sounds of bakery fresh new music....

The Here comes your 5th Annual Parking Lot Blowout took over the short north from about 3pm until 9pm (*Afterparty @ Skullys*) with Old Hundred opening the festivities followed by The Randys (Always a groove-tastically delicious group) and swanky lineup of newly discovered favorites New Bomb Turks, Gibson Bros. and Scrawl

Being a newbie on the scene I was unsure of what to expect volunteering but I was welcomed with open arms (shout out to Erin!) and I even managed to sell some lucky raffle tickets (btw so jel of who ever won that PBR sleeping bag!).

Although I was mostly a volunteer for the day, I did manage to catch some of the actual show which was also being streamed live online. I must say my favorite of the day was Old Hundred. With a "soundtrack to life" vibe, I felt hints of Muse in their rhythms and Death Cab for Cutie in the vocals - the kind of music that you want to take your shoes off and dance barefoot in the rain to... perfect way to open a weekend.

The Latest Crave: Jimmy Riggs Live - Sunday Night @ Oldfeild's on High

Funk filled the bar with a sweet eclectic groove, the lights and drums perfectly infused, the vocals like poetry express the rhythm pouring out all over the lead guitar.

Sunday night. The last night to kick back with the funknastyiest band in the bus at Oldfield's on high.

Jimmy Riggs and The Projectile Style of Funk Nasty Freshness played their last stint at Oldfield's on high - a north campus gem now under new ownership and name (Kobo).

New fans and loyal groupies got a chance to hear two new songs from the band- both exclusively funky and definitely a credit to their talent as not just a jam band but a solid musical force with that special ability to relentlessly entertain a wide range of audiences.

The jam sound of Jimmy Riggs entices the ears with liberal integrations of hip-hop, kinky reggae and soulganic funk, and after a few riffs from Ben and Ryan you'll be on your feet shaking it to the nasty with a projectile style of funk TASTIC freshness!

My Favorite Song: Jimmy Never Texts
Songs you need on your ipod/iphone/crackberry/driod: Louisiana Chicken Flip, Jimmy Never Texts, and The Funk Nasty Freshness.

The Latest Crave - RHC Review

This thrashy industrial metal band has a relentless sternum cracking sound.  Original shredding-style guitar solos and the Rev's throaty vocals are a credit to real thrash metal - brutal and rebellious - just the way we like it.

The vocals on "Daughter" have a sadistic hint of Manson in his prime and while the instruments give that perfect balance of chaos and control - my personal favorite.

"Vessel" simply put - amazing. Best NIN cover ever period. "Cast" is rebelicious and violence inciting with riot style riffs and post punk vocals. Reverend H really shows of his industrial metal technique in "Worthy"- his vocals distort reality and transcend thrash, his engineering breaks through industrial and creates a brand new sound- dark, dirty, raw, and visceral.

RHC is music for the masses - perfectly frustrated, addictive, angry and in your face.

The Latest Crave: Hope Vitellas

Hope Vitellas

I first came across hope at my work as a project coordinator at The Women's Fund of Central Ohio. It was at Keyholder 9 where Hope took the stage and my heart with her folk-me-softly melodies. Hope's a powerwoman, she spearheads her own promotions, tours the midwest and Europe, and even finds time to kick some serious ass in the ring as a Muy Thai fighter. You can catch her matches in the Shorth North or see her rocking the stage in venues throughout central Ohio. In the mean time visit www.hopevitellas.com to purchase the albums Komi Baby or Picture Frame. They will blow you away!
