Live Show Review: Motograter - Honoring of the Sun Tour

Tribal fury metalers MOTOGRATER played a spellbinding set Wednesday May 25th at O’Sheckys with openers Act of Violence and XFactor1.

More vicious than ever before, the Motograter beast is back with a sweet tooth for heavy grinding, cranial drilling industrial metal. The jungle-like apocalyptic atmosphere rests in the dark spaciousness of the guitar riffs as Tyler and Nuke sync their strings perfectly with Twitch on the thunderous drums. Angel’s stirring vocals earmark the balance between cryptic pain-marked verses and sweet soaring, melodic choruses which accent the signature sound of pure evil coming from Mark Nosler on the motograter.*

It was a nonstop party on stage and in the audience as fans were treated to back in the day favorites like Suffocate, Down, and Get Back. We also got a taste of the newest single Start A War, a song I can only describe as an unapologetic onslaught of rebellion and heavy metal aggression! Check out the full set list below and make sure to catch MOTOGRATER on the Honoring Of The Sun Tour coming to a city near you!

I also had the amazing honor of interviewing Angel. That interview will be posted soon so stay tuned to Ear Candi Magazine for more information!

Blog Spotlight: RadCulture - Your Ultimate Cure For Boredom

If you want to stay current on Columbus entertainment add RadCulture to your news feed, twitter, and Facebook!  Known as the ultimate cure for boredom, RadCulture is the brainchild of local cousins Brad and Adam Kripke.

The site slogan is “Things that are RAD written by Brad” which is exactly what you will find at RadCulture. Humorous, clever and insightful social commentary is executed by Brad, as well as informative news and straightforward reviews on everything from great happy hours, to the latest Iphone app, to the best places to hear live music in Columbus.

When asked about the mission of RadCulture, co-founder Adam Kripke explained, “RadCulture's mission is simple, blog about things we think are RAD. Everyday you and I get emailed funny videos,  learn about fun games, see new tech gadgets, hear about a great band, or eat at an excellent restaurant. Our team simply takes the best of the best and blogs about it. Normally in order to learn about these new discoveries you need to visit multiple websites. We try to bring it all under one virtual roof. Since we are based in Columbus, Ohio we do our best to find the hidden gems in the community and inform our readers about it."

Recent RadCulture news includes “Kiss Killa,” the 92 year old woman who was arrested for shooting her neighbor's house after they got into an argument because he refused to give her a little “sugar”, reviews of Happy Hour at Bernard’s Tavern, The Teenager’s remix of the Vampire Weekend single “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa” and local indie rockers Harboring Ghosts. RadCulture has also produced a spring show guide featuring some of the best local performances coming this season.

If I had to pick my favorite aspect of the RadCulture blog, it would have to be the jingle! It features hilarious lyrics from none other than Brad, sounding like a mix between T-Pain and Jeffree Star comically singing about his hopes of the website getting people laid.

Funny, creative, informative, and definitely a fun cure for boredom, RadCulture is quickly becoming a favorite for finding the best in Columbus entertainment and social life.

The Latest Crave: Deadwater Rising

With soul shredding energy, complex riffing, and deep, rough vocals Dead Water Rising delivers technical brutality with no regard to the trending label obsession in heavy metal music.  Deadwater Rising creates an interesting atmosphere of authenticity and it is clear to see (and hear)  that this band was came together out of an intense desire to make music they love, not  just to make "hits." Not every song will be liked by mainstream listeners but every song has that metal to the core - primal yet complex texture to it making Deadwater Rising worth a good long listen for tried and true metal heads in search of something new. Scene kids, sorry but this band is not for you.

Dead Water Rising will headline an interesting selection of noise on October 17 at CKay's Bar & Grill in New Lexington Ohio.

Andrew Varner Live! Tonight at Scarlet & Grey

Tweeting my way through another Monday, I stumbled upon some fresh indie pop music from a local artist who just happens to have a live show TONIGHT at Scarlet and Grey Cafe (10pm).

Andrew Varner's vocals are rustic, sweet, and hopelessly romantic; the kind of music you can  relax, reflect and relate to. Music that is raw, honest and engaging.

Favorite tracks include:
How To Be Alone (free download via ReverbNation)
King and Queen
Reruns and Leftovers

Check Andrew's video "Reruns and Leftovers" below and be sure to stop by Scarlet and Grey Cafe tonight (August 16) and August 23 to hear Andrew live!
