Artist News: TaNeal Ends Contract with Managers of Golden Voice Media

This Sunday, August 21, 2011 TaNeal will be at the end of her contract with current managers. It's important for artists to know about what do and what not to do when considering management, TaNeal shares her experience and taking her talents to Atlanta, Georgia a hotbed of rising soul and R&B musicians.

The official announcement released today states:
TaNeal is now finished with her contract with Golden Voice Media, the management team including client Ted Williams the homeless guy with the golden voice.
She states that they made a promise to put her to work and that she would make a certain amount of money within the first 3 months with signing with them.  They kept their promise with one show and did nothing else following that.  They never checked in with her and took an unacceptable length of time to followup on her messages and texts.  One mistake she feels they made was that they did not understand booking and could have used Ted Williams celebrity to benefit their other artists.  With that said, it is important to know as an artist who wants to excel in a career of music, if someone approaches you and shows an interest...
1.  They should not ask for money from you.
2.  Do not be afraid to re-negotiate any contracts they present.
3.  If something doesn't feel right, trust your gut because something is wrong!

TaNeal has learned and is ready to move on.  Since signing with Golden Voice Media she on her own has re-located to Atlanta, Georgia pushing her music and landed a speaking role in an upcoming film "Rebound:  The Movie"  Directed by Micky Riggins. TaNeal's first show since re-locating is this Saturday August 20, 2011 with the Indy Music Fest I and 6th annual International Soul Music Summit: Underground Atlanta (Kenny's Alley) at 10pm.

Strong Women In Music Concert Interview Series: The Opening Act, Dr. E

Strong Women In Music Concert at Penn State University | April 27, 2011
Interviews with MC Lyte, Dr. E and musical director Ronnie Burrage.

Led by world renowned drummer Ronnie Burrage, a live band composed of musicians Eli Byrne, Chulo Gatewood, Marvin Horne, and Adam Faulk accompanied the legendary MC Lyte for the Penn State Jazz Club Strong Women In Music concert held April 27th at Alumni Hall.

Penn State Student rappers Ugo, Equille Williams, Jackie Hodge and Drew Dub of the Hip-Hop/ Reggae ensemble Atlas Soundtrack (interview coming soon) also shared the stage with MC Lyte for a crowd pleasing performance of the game changing single “Self Destruction.”

EAR CANDI is pleased to present crew member Ebony Jeanette’s interviews with headliner MC Lyte, opening act Dr. E and musical director Ronnie Burrage.

A special thank you to the Penn State Jazz Club faculty advisor Eli Byrne for making it all possible!
The Opening Act: Interview with Dr. E
Opening the Strong Women In Music concert was soul songstress, songwriter, and former Penn State professor Dr. E.
A rising independent artist, Dr. E has performed at many notable venues such as Walt Disney World, The Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Lincoln Theatre and more. She has captivated listeners with her unique brand of soul and continues to inspire through her personal story of redemption (See here).

Thanks again Dr. E for a great interview! - Ebony Jeanette

EAR CANDI: What does it mean to be a “Strong Woman In Music” to you?

Dr. E: Be who you are and keep grinding.

EAR CANDI: As the opening act for the Strong Women In Music concert, what do you feel right now is most exciting about your music?

Dr. E: Well, now I have gotten beyond the initial excitement when I first completed my project. Now I am proud of my music because it is a part of who I am and it makes me feel good that a lot of people like it and accept it and me for who I am. I am growing as a woman and a songwriter which is great! It feels so wonderful to open the evening for MC Lyte, she has always been an inspiration to me as an versatile entrepreneur and master of her craft.

EAR CANDI: Tell us about your day job, you were a professor at Penn State a few years back and currently at at Ohio State University right?

Dr. E: I am becoming more and more of who I really am and want to be. I used to think of myself as Elaine the singer-songwriter, Elaine the sister-girl from Cleveland, Dr. E the applied linguist who loves culture and African and Afro-diasporic cultures, Dr. E the community advocate. My selves are really not disparate. I am figuring out that I don't have to separate my music life from my scholarly and outreach life. I am all one person and I take me everywhere I go. It's cool!

EAR CANDI: You are a scholar and a songwriter wow! So what is your music writing process like? Does it just come to you?

Dr. E: I can have an idea and the music comes later, or sometimes I get the music and feeling and lyrics all at once, or I will experience an emotion or event and a song will come to me. I’ve had dreams where I saw myself singing a song I end up writing and other times, someone will just give me pre-recorded tracks and I''l vibe until something comes.

EAR CANDI: Who are you listening to the most right now on your ipod?

Dr. E: I'm listening to Georgia Anne Muldrow, Monica, Ronnie Burrage, MC Lyte, and Mary Mary.

EAR CANDI: What advice do you give to young girls who have made difficult life choices? How can they be Elevated?

Dr. E: We all make mistakes. Don't let your past define your future. You are love made straight from the creator, no matter your circumstances. Get the support you need. Reach out and keep striving for your goals.

EAR CANDI: Where can we buy your music?

The Latest Crave: FeedUs

Animal: This song connects to the barbarian within. The raw, blistering vocals that fester over grind-core guitar riffs express primitive urges that tussle back and forth between hatred and desire. Most definitely the kind of song that is meant to be performed live in order to encompass the full experience of the animal. Check out the video below of FeedUs performing “Animal” at Battle of the Bands in Orlando, FL.

Get Your Stripes: A hard and heavy anthem with softer vocals but still angry enough to unleash the war-mongering fury that makes this song memorable.

No Good cranks up the intensity using heavier guitar riffs and more emphasis on throaty growls and raspy metallic vocals. A song about amounting to nothing and not giving a sh*t so much vocalist Clay Sapp screams it from the arches of his lungs for a few bars. Want fight music? Play this song.

Roomush changes the pace with cynical and unforgiving vocals that play off the hard edge guitar to deliver a love scorned track that exposes the inner pain of an abandoned and broken heart.

The song to head bang to the most is Lazarus. This solid hard rock track delivers big vocals and hard hitting drums that beef up the overall quality and gives it that classic AOR sound; showing their potential for mainstream hard rocker status.

Overall, FeedUs satiates musical hunger pangs and quenches metal mouth with blood squirting vocals, pus popping bursts of thundering drums, and sick and dirty guitar riffs in a sweat soaked ingestion of grunge flavored rock.

Coming a long way from living with no electricity among other hardships; this band continues to perform throughout Florida and work their fingers to the bone to fuel their dream of playing the music that feeds us. Making some serious headway among hard and heavy rock followers; FeedUs is number 2 on the Reverbnation metal charts for Jasper, Florida. FeedUs consists of Clay Sapp on vocals, Brad Butler on Guitar, Daniel Thigpen on Drums, and Danny Herring on Bass.

The Latest Crave: Pittersplatter

Pittersplatter. A demonic monstrosity of dark forces converge in a terrifying cosmic explosion of electronic sound waves to exploit the most vulnerable of ear drums.

Known as the most controversial band in Oklahoma, Pittersplatter is a ferocious musical creature composed of Worm Necroticus Splatter, Menace, and Thursday 12. Their latest album, The Dawn of Carnage will be released on Dyskfunctional Records November 15, 2010.

Encompassing music not primarily meant for dancing, but derived from dance-oriented styles; Pittersplatter infuses the horrors, abominations, and vile infestations of the human experience into a guttural, growling electro-industrial sound scape that is served best via live performance. Listen closely to their music and you can peel back the textured layers of each instrument; synths, keys, drum machines, and mixers to expose the beast-like, spirit summoning vocals that encapsulate Pittersplatter’s nightmarish sound.

Witness the Pittersplatter phenomenon this month every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night at Tumbleweed Dance Hall & Concert Arena in Stillwater, Oklahoma or download the sadistic musical offerings via Amazon.
